20th Preservation Merit Awards-2010


May is National Historic Preservation Month and the National Trust for Historic Preservation's theme for 2010 was "Old is the New Green!"

We invited members and friends of the Historical Society of Rockland County to join us as we celebrated Rockland County Preservation Week and the 20th Anniversary of The Rockland County Executive's Historic Preservation Merit Awards Program!

In honor of the 20th anniversary of the Preservation Merit Awards Program, the Committee took this opportunity to acknowledge and promote the good work being done each and every day by Rockland County's local historical and civic groups in their historic preservation efforts.

The evening's program was made possible thanks to the generous support of our event's sponsors 
Mandel, Katz and Brosnan, LLP    and long-time Rockland County Executive's Historic Preservation Merit Awards sponsor Strasser and Associates, Inc.

We also invited all like-minded institutions in the county to come together to celebrate one another's achievements, successes and the great importance of history in our Preserve America County.

We opened our back gallery to historical societies and historical museums throughout Rockland County to display items that represent each organization and that relate to historic preservation. The following groups put up interesting displays:

  • and from the Tappantown Historical Society, we were honored to have the Tappan Patent on display.

    The Rockland County Executive's Historic Preservation Merit Award for 2010 in Preservation Leadership was given to Craig H. Long, Historian for the Town of Ramapo and the Villages of Suffern, Montebello and Chestnut Ridge.

    We also celebrated the newly restored Blauvelt Barn and Carriage House here on the grounds of the HSRC.
