A Murder in Pearl River
James Cassetta is the adult reference and local history librarian at the Pearl River Public Library. He grew up in Pearl River and lives there still, with his wife, Rosa, and their sons, Dominick and David. Jim is a valued contributor to our magazine; this is his fifth article for South of the Mountains. His book, Pearl River, to be published by Arcadia in the Images of America series, will come out in September.

From the  Collections

In 2001, William Doherty transcribed a Civil War diary in the collection of the Historical Society and wrote a two-part article about it for South of the Mountains. A Rockland County native from West Haverstraw, Bill has retired from a property management career in downtown Manhattan and is now volunteering in the Historical Society's library and archives. We are excited that he is back in the saddle writing for our magazine. His field of historical expertise is the Civil War.

COVER PICTURE

Detail from Landmarks of Rockland County, the map researched and designed by Claire Tholl and published by the Historical Society of Rockland County in 1975. William and Katy's last name is spelled variously in the sources.
