About Joyce Bulifant: The beloved actress Joyce Bulifant is remembered for her recurring role of Marie Slaughter (wife of Murray Slaughter) on The Mary Tyler Moore Show. She was married to Helen Hayes's son James MacArthur, who is remembered for his starring role on Hawaii Five-O.

• Friday, October 7, 8 pm: Rivertown Film Society presents Helen Hayes on Film: When the First Lady of Broadway Conquered Hollywood. In a movie career bookended by Academy Awards (Best Actress for The Sin of Madelon Claudet [1931] and Best Supporting Actress for Airport [1970]), the stage legend Helen Hayes forged a unique path on the screen. She was a queen of MGM in the early 1930s and a romantic costar of both Gary Cooper and Clark Gable. Though she returned to Broadway, Hayes would occasionally be enticed back to the movies—most notably, opposite Ingrid Bergman in Anastasia (1956). This evening of film clips and discussion, sponsored by Wright Bros. Realty, will be presented by the film historian John DiLeo. DiLeo charts Hayes's natural affinity for film acting and her progression from young leading lady to senior character actress. Aided by film clips spanning more than four decades, this is a cinematic celebration of the singular artistry and enduring legacy of Helen Hayes. As a bonus, the program will include clips from film versions of two stage classics—The Front Page and Twentieth Century—cowritten by Charles MacArthur and the couple's friend and neighbor Ben Hecht. • Saturday, October 8, 8 pm: ArtsRock presents "Remembering Helen Hayes with Love!” a live and in-person show by Joyce Bulifant, with Bryon Sommers on piano. Bulifant makes a rare stage appearance in at the First Reformed Church, 18 South Broadway, Nyack, with her one-person show filled with music, images, and personal stories about her mother-in-law, Nyack's own Helen Hayes. This program coincides with Hayes and MacArthur's Nyack home, Pretty Penny, being designated a landmark as part of Nyack's Phoenix Festival. Tickets are $30 (general admission) and $50 (premium seating). For information or to buy tickets, go to: https://www.artsrock.org/calendar.php?id=123. • Monday, October 10, 10:30 am: The Empire State Center for the Book and the Pretty Penny Literary Landmark Committee will dedicate the Literary Landmark at the Nyack Library Community Room. All are welcome at this FREE community event.
