SANTA CLAUS IS COMING.
BY A LITTLE BOY
[Image courtesy Godey's Magazine and Lady's Book, Christmas 1871.]

Good Santa Claus is coming,
     With his famous pack of toys,
Upon his yearly visit
     To the merry girls and boys.

Yes! he is surely coming
     With all his reindeers ten,
And with his pretty fair sleigh
     That ne’er was seen by men.

He is quite a little fellow.
     For he’s very old, you know;
Why, I’ve heard people say he lived
     A thousand years ago.

And that he had the same reindeers
     And little fairy sleigh,
The same old pipe between his teeth,
     He has this very day.

He will not come to every child,
     But only to the good;
And so I warn you, one and all,
     To keep in pleasant mood.

So children now be careful
     To please old Santa Claus,
For he’ll not come to any house
     Where children have been cross.
