In the fall of 1776, the British thought their campaign to take New York was at a close. George Washington had divided his troops primarily between Westchester County, New York, and Fort Lee, NJ, with Fort Washington situated between the two.

In the course of four days in November, the British rapidly captured both fortifications, along with thousands of troops, dozens of cannon, and numerous military stores. Washington, faced with expiring enlistment and dwindling morale, was forced to flee across New Jersey with thousands of Cornwallis's troops on his heels.

This is the story of some of the darkest days of the Revolution -- told at a fast pace to mach the fleeing Patriots.
