In 1975, members of the Historical Society of Rockland County came together to lay the cornerstone for the History Center. Now, 50 years later, we invite you to celebrate that milestone and pay tribute to our deserving honorees: Winston C. Perry Jr., Trudy Album, and The Friends of Mount Moor Cemetery.

We’ll tour the gracious Federal-style Bartow-Pell Mansion, with stunning views of the Long Island Sound, then enjoy conversation and light refreshments (tea, scones, and biscuits) in the historic mansion’s Orangerie, followed by free exploration of the gardens and grounds.

Letchworth Village Reservoirs

Saturday, 9 am
We’ll start the day with a hike on paved and woods roads and trails to the mountain reservoirs that provided water supply to Letchworth Village. Leaders Gordon Wren and Tony Benedict will talk about Letchworth and point out other historic and scenic spots along the Long Path and Woodtown Road. For those who choose to stay, we'll conclude at Oktoberfest at Krucker's Picnic Grounds.

Riverside Moguls, Part 2 - Titans of Industry

Building on the theme of part 1 (presented in June), part 2 -- "Riverside Moguls: Titans of Industry" -- focuses on industrialists tied to themes of the Gilded Age beyond railroads, including oil and real estate.
Featured are John D. Rockefeller's Kykuit Estate, Pierre Lorillard IV's Tuxedo Park, and more.

Historic Homes & Landmarks Tour: Tappan

Saturday, 10 am - 4 pm
During this self-guided walking tour a number of houses and other significant buildings within the Tappan Historic Area will be open to the public. The tour promotes this Orangetown community and its historic importance to Rockland County and announces events celebrating the 250th anniversary in 2026 of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

12th Annual Fall Festival

Join the Revolution, the glorious cause! See how militia of the American Revolutionary War lived in the 1770s. Heard's Brigade of the New Jersey Militia seejs visitors to cheer on our encampment of 18th century tents, open-fire pit cooking, militia drills, musket firing and other living history demonstrations!

Vanderbilt Mansion

After touring this Gilded Age mansion on the Hudson at Hyde Park, the lavish country home of Frederick and Louise Vanderbilt from 1896 to 1938, we’ll head to the scenic town of Rhinebeck for lunch at the historic Beekman Arms tavern.

"Protecting the Ramapo Pass: George Washington's
Little Known Fortifications at Sidman's Bridge"

When we drive up Route 287 or Route 17, we are passing a piece of history that George Washington knew well: the Ramapo Pass. He wrote in his logbook that it was of vital importance that the pass remain in American possession. Rockland County Historian Craig H. Long will share with us this important piece of Revolutionary War history.
