The history of Rockland County is made up of many elements; each has its own story to tell. Together they define Rockland County and give it its character. To learn and "listen" to these various elements is to understand the Rockland County of today.
In this revised and expanded installation of "Rockland Voices," we introduce five of these elements:
- The Lenape
- The Dutch
- Treason of the Revolution
- Slavery
- The Nyack Turnpike and Teunis Smith
Objects from the HSRC's permanent collection in each of these thematic elements are on display to help tell the story that is Rockland County.
Special thanks to Dorice Madronero, Catherine Quinn, Marianne Leese, Clare Sheridan, Richard Anderson and Jessica Kuhnen for their help in preparing this exhibition. The Historical Society of Rockland County gratefully acknowledges the generous support of the Provident Bank Charitable Foundation.
